Day 1 has begun. I have made it into downtown Vancouver and the place is rocking! The torch is en route and opening ceremonies only a few hours away. I have only seen one Gamecock tee-shirt so far.....yeah I wore it in the gym this morning. (I am getting inspired by all of these athletes to get in shape!) But seriously, "team" colors are out everywhere. Austria, Germany, Brazil (?), USA, you name it....but all are nothing compared to the Canadians....there are Maple Leaves everywhere....I mean everywhere....these folks are into this!
I had nice chat on the train into town with a Canadian volunteer at the BC Center (where the Opening Ceremonies will be). He was super charged up. Says the show tonight is off the charts awesome. He coiuldnt reveal any details due to an NDA but promised that I would love it. He says the light show alone is unbelievable. I'm excited!
Our conversation evolved to curling, Vancouver, Whistler, hockey, etc but then strangely he started asking detailed questions about the Carolinas. Turns out this man who has lived in British Columbia his entire life is a subscriber to Southern Living. Go figure!
More to come. Time to explore.
